Life of a Journalism student at UF and the CMIR

Coming to the University of Florida and studying in the college of journalism has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I get to learn from some of the best professors in the industry. With all the facilities available to me in the newsroom, I get to experience what its like to work in a news station. The biggest difference between attending any other school for journalism and attending the University of Florida, is the amount of professional experience you leave with. I get to work as a reporter as i continue my education, putting me ahead of most other university student

Tipping Point Review

The tipping point was an extremely interesting book. The book gave good insight to things in everyday life that people don’t usually realize. It gives specifics such as “The three agents of change” which are The Law of Few, The Stickiness Factor, and The Power of Context. The Three Agents of Change are used to determine the “Tipping Point.”

The law of few, is basically explained by what is called the 80/20 principle. These means the 20% of the people will do 80% of the work. So basically if you fix any problem within the 20% of any business, or county, etc. then it should find its way down into fixing the rest of the 80%. That’s where the focus needs to be to make sure it can be successful.

Next is the Stickiness Factor. This is basically the idea of having something stick in your mind. Its usually a concept used by kids shows. They will give you a full story, but make sure that some specific lesson sticks in the kids mind. This technique is also used for people who study. This can also be used plainly for entertainment. If you want someone to remember a tv show or some sort of event on tv, you have to make sure there is something big enough to keep it in people mind.

The 3rd and final agent of change is the power of context. Basically this means that human behavior is highly determined by their surrounding. A personal example would be a friend of mine who used to live in Florida, had long hair and wore shorts everyday. When he moved to New York City, he cut his hair, and started wearing “High Fashion” jeans. When I asked him why he changed his style, his first response was, jokingly, “because its colder.” Then he said “Because that what everyone else wears.” Both those points make sense and are able to be traced back to the power of context. Weather can obviously be a huge impact on human behavior, because of necessary things that need to be done for survival. And the people who you surround yourself with are also a big part of determining your own personality. You can be judged a lot about your character by the people you hang out with.

The tipping point brings to light many things in life that seem to be “Just because,” but the truth is that there is a reason for what happens, and who does whatever happens. The tipping point, or point of change in either a society or a person, can be traced back by a series of events, but by analyzing the 3 agents of change you can see exactly when it happened. Weather its because of the law of few, stickiness factor, or the power of context, whatever is analyzed will become drastically different after all these have taken place.

Bio

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and moved to the United States at the age of 4. I lived in Orlando for most of my life and thats where my love for exercise and fitness began. I met a guy at my job who competed in fitness competitions. He took me to the gym one day to lift with him. That was the first time I took pre-workout before working out. We did chest and tris that day and I had a real hard time keeping up. After the workout he gave me some protein to take to help my body recuperate. Needles to say I was extremely sore the next morning. But as I continued to go to the gym with him, I started to improve, and began to quickly see results. Thats when my addiction to working out began. Then I came to the University of Florida, where I study telecommunications. Its sometimes difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The best way to do so is by finding someone with the same goals as you to keep you motivated. Which is why I decided to make this blog about health and fitness for college kids, to keep motivating others and myself.

Pre-Workout

Pre-Workouts tend to be a “go-to” for many serious lifter. Though the extra energy can be a necessity when trying to hit those extra sets, sometimes the extra “other stuff” isn’t too good for your health in the long run. Thats why I recommend GNC Puredge Daily Energy. This Pre-Workout mix is nature based, making it better for you to take routinely.

Though you may start taking Pre-Workout, don’t forget about the Post-Workout to help protect your muscles.

Lats

If you’ve ever wondered why it seems some people look massive, while others look average, the answer is Lats. Working your Lats is one of the ways to quickly make your appearance seem bigger. Its a muscle that gets forgotten by many lifters, but can be the one that makes the biggest impression. Muscleandfitness.com shows many ways to improve your lat muscles, including lat pull downs, which i’ve personally find to be most effective.

If you don’t have the means to go to the gym, another good way to keep working on those lats is by using resistance bands.

SEO and Hyperlinks

SEO is search engine optimization, which basically means that you use google to tag words back to your website and make it more accessible for other users to find your page. When people google specific key words, this will lead them to your website quicker. Hyperlinks are a way to make your website link to other more credible websites. So if you talk about some specific subject, then link to a website that has had credibility for a long time. Considering my Blog is about healthy living, I particularly like linking to Mens Health. If you can get a website to link back to you, then that can increase your credibility even more so. You can also link back to your own website to relate back to a specific topic, like the resistance bands I talked about earlier.

Abs

When people start working out often, a lot of the time they concentrate on “getting big.” Though there is nothing wrong with the idea of gaining size, you cant forget to work on your abs. Mike from “Six Pack Shortcuts” demonstrates a great ab routine.
